Message from the Governor.

Ladies and Gentlemen I have approved the inauguration of the annual “Street Soccer Championship” as a means of further engaging our teeming youths. Street Soccer is not new as all young people at one time or the other has passionately engaged in the games.

The formalization is designed amongst others to:

• Provide a platform for social engagement amongst our young people
• Provide employment opportunities for thousands of our young men
• Place value on the talents and skills of millions of our players
• Stimulate and transfer the passion for football from the foreign leagues to our local teams
• Form the foundation of City Teams that will give birth to our own Manchester United’s, Arsenals, Chelsea’s and others.

I have been assured that our young people have resolved to maintain Law and Order during the competition which will last from February to November each year. I have also been assure that the competition will be self sustaining and that the highest level of probity will be maintained and that value will be given for every kobo the Sponsors invest in this laudable programme. I shall subject the completion to close monitoring and review and will not hesitate to reconsider my approval should it deviate from the set objectives or threaten the peace and security of lives and properties.

Finally I invite every Lagosian irrespective of religion, tribe or gender top get up and raise a team. Let us have fun Let’s Play Eko oni baje
